Hambis Printmaking Museum
Hambis Printmaking Museum
Platanisteia Limasol Cyprus
On a hot September day we drove up to the South Western part of Cyprus with my friend Zoe. After getting lost in the windy mountain roads we finally arrived in a small haven of art known as Hambis Printmaking Museum. The sixty year old Hambis who has studied in Moscow has had his studio, workshop and exhibition space in the village of Plataniskia in the Limasol district since 1995. He has been giving free lessons and workshops every August in memory of his late teacher in Athens, the printmaker Tassos. A man full of life and love for his work, he insists on the research and reinforcement of the Cypriot Folk Traditions through his prints and cultural research. His 5 year research into the local goblin folk myth of the Kalikatzaroi, resulted to a publication and an exhibition. The pictures that follow are from his museum and personal exhibition space.
