Vertical farming

If predtictions are fulfilled then by the year 2050, more than 80% of the earth's population will be living in large urban centres. The increase that will be noted will be an extra 3 billion inhabitants on the planet. The above is one of the design solutions formed to deal with the need for farming space. And it all still seems to be aiming vertically.

That's random, this topic actually came up last time I saw one of my old flatmates because it was one of the predictions made in the new Wired UK magazine. We decided though that it was probably never going to be cost effective though - how would you make sure the middle bits got enough sunlight without using loads of electricity? But I guess we'll have to wait and see!
